Real estate brokerage laws in the Province of Quebec are going to change between now and 2010. Practice standards will be reviewed for the entire profession. The terms affiliated real estate agent and accredited real estate agent, as well as affiliated real estate broker and accredited real estate broker will be modified and academic access to the profession will also change. Training and class hours for new real estate agents and brokers will be greatly modified in order to increase their level of knowledge upon graduation. This new law will accentuate client, buyer and seller confidence towards the agents that represent them.

Below, you will find the distribution of real estate agents and brokers throughout the province of Quebec:


The number of real estate agents and brokers in Quebec according to the association des courtiers et agents immobiliers du Québec (ACAIQ) (Quebec Real Estate Agent and Broker Association) is 13 175 affiliated agents, 2 801 accredited agents, 1 787 accredited brokers and 60 affiliated brokers, for a total of 17 823 affiliated or accredited permits delivered to date.

The distribution of real estate agents and brokers throughout the different parts of the province is as follows :

Lower Saint-Lawrence 123 agents and 11 brokers, Saguenay Lac St-Jean 234 agents and 17 brokers, Québec 1 274 agents and 199 brokers, Mauricie-Bois-Franc 376 agents and 49 brokers, Eastern Townships 396 agents and 69 brokers, Montreal 6 003 agents and 631 brokers, Outaouais 552 agents and 54 brokers, Abitibi-Témiscamingue 53 agents and 8 brokers, North Coast 40 agents and 7 brokers, Gaspésie –Magdalene Islands 19 agents and 4 brokers, Chaudière-Appalaches 180 agents and 37 brokers, Laval 1 858 agents and 121 brokers, Lanaudière 637 agents and 62 brokers, Laurentians 1 250 agents and 166 brokers, Montérégie 3 041 agents and 352 brokers.

RE/MAX with 3 568 agents, Groupe Sutton 2 677 agents, Royal Lepage 1 857 agents, La Capitale 1 494 agents, Century 21 with 862 agents, Proprio Direct Inc. 361 agents, Exit 118 agents, and Les Immeubles Les Associés Inc. 48 agents.

There are presently 1 258 independent brokers and 32 of them have 20 agents or more working for them.
